Tranportation and Infrastructure Crisis

In the post-budget speech, the Pakistani government ‘advised’ the people to take a cue from the US population and start using public transport to cut their fuel costs.
Well, we are ready to take cue from the Americans and will use the public transport, but is the government ready to take cue from the US and provide us the decent public transport? The current plight of the public transport is not only pathetic, dismal and painful; it is downright like a hell ride. Whether its intra-city or inter-city transport, there is no decent service available for the commuters in any city or town of the Pakistan.
The whole public transport service infrastructure is in the hands of private individuals, who do nothing but to screw people as much as possible. Government has no control whatsoever on these transporters. Most of the drivers and conductors of these public transports are either criminals released from jail, who don’t find any other work, or they are the people who know nothing else to do because of their illiteracy and non-existent skills.
People have to wait for hours to board on the bus or wagon and then they face a traumatic journey towards their homes and offices. Public transporters use dilapidated vehicles and cram as much people as possible. Ladies are subjected to very humiliating behavior, and the drivers are conductors remain always ready to quarrel. Fares are set by the transporters and there is no say of government in it. When the fuel prices are increased, fares are also increased by the transporters, and when fuel prices decrease, nobody bothers to reduce the fares.
In Pakistan, according to a newspaper report, 70 per cent of the energy generated is thermal which is produced from imported POL products and fuel oil. The electricity charges would increase under an automatic tariff adjustment formula and the government would also not offer any subsidy or relief to the people. So, this carbon tax would not only increase the financial miseries of 170 million populations, but also apply brakes on the industrial growth, as the input cost of fuel and electricity would increase manifold. The carbon tax appears nothing else but an anti-growth tax. The CNG has never been considered as a component of the POL, but now, it has been considered that the CNG is now heavily used in private vehicles and even public transport vehicles like rickshaws, minibus, etc.
There is no denying the fact that the masses need to use the fuel efficiently and rationally, but before forcing nation to do that through Draconian Carbon Tax, the government must provide a stable and dependable and strictly regulated public transport system.

Well I believe that the last point was the topic sentence and the way in which the DRACONIAN TAX and stable transport was compared, described the whole Transport Predicament very inclusively.

providing a better public transport will not only ease the burden on the poor but will also help in reducing the inner city congestion leading to a clean and safe enviroment plus easier and quiker journeys. the first thing government needs to do is to make the image of public transport better through publicity , and it should not only be meant for the lower class but also for the middle and higher middle class, as it is in the developed countries like USA and UK. So that no one is ashamed of travelling using busses, trains etc. regulated subsidies should be given to private firms so that it can be ensured that the benefits are passed on to everyone.

okay public transport here in the UK is pretty good, but it shouldnt be seen as something that has always been so. My grandparents would hop on a cart to go from town to town when they were kids, now i go by high speed trains. Its just a matter of time, development will happen.

rawalpindi express fastest train in the world.

Shoaib akhtar is the new transportation for Pakistan as he says he is always in air plane mode.

u state the most drivers have criminal records... or cant do anything else coz of their lack in education....what other options do u suggest for them??? lock em up again or just let then starve themselves to death as they arnt educated enough to RUN A BUS?? do u suggest they shud start hiring mba's bus drives?? as for the crimials...they deserve a second chance..like everyother crimial does in successful coutries(this is where i say pakistan doob raha hai unki jaheel brainless/heartless logo ki waja say)!!
wht need to be done is that our driving schools n people who are incharge of givin out licenses shud be moreee conscious in this case!!

The video says it all.Thousands of Pakistanis have died due to the terrorism, hundreds have lost their jobs, businesses, homes, health, peace, wealth. So much sadness and negativity prevails in our country at the moment that one can hardly stand on one's feet, leave alone building the nation. Fixing Pakistan is a nightmare and no longer a dream. Where to start and how to prevail under such circumstances? Nobody has the answer and it does not seem that any postive change will come in the near future. God does miracles but waiting for Allah is not the right strategy. Economic crisis or no crisis, we are a dead nation! afshanarif

I was once proud of being a professional, a mother who took care of her family by working and earning for the family. With my husband's salary alone it was not enough to run the family in the manner each one of us wanted to live. But with all the bomb blasts, security issues, it was manadatory that I should stay at home and wait for my kids to come home safe and sound. Someone had to be there to see them come home and be there in case of emergency. Do we have to thank each day that our loved ones are safe and stop all our activities in case there is an emergency. We are incapacitated, because of lack of law and order, security and we fear each day. What's next Pakistan! We are not just parents, we are the police too, guarding ourselves, paying taxes, are being driven into dark ages! Thank You Leaders! desisoul@hotmail.com

I would say that not every Pakistani, especially the commom man is looting. There are many people who are annonamously doing a lot for our countrymen. I experience and observe that daily. Yes there is humiliation, harrasment and desrespect in many segments BUT where is it coming from? Lack of occupation, poor salary structure, poor education and self esteem. Anyone who has self eseem would think twice before polluting anything, minds, environment or themselves. We are hungry and begging for a better Pakistan. If we all used are hands and feet and a little bit of and cooperate with each other, we could change the face of Pakistan!Self esteem comes from within, no one gives it to you!

Pakistan Zindabad! OR is it? Right now all is BAD and DEAD! afshana
